Financial Aid

Studying Abroad is an investment in your future. There are many costs in developing and running a safe, enjoyable and transformational program abroad, and Living Routes is committed to creating affordable, broadly accessible programs. We are partnering with more and more colleges and accelerating our own scholarshipping efforts. For those who demonstrate need, the best place to look for financial aid for your study abroad experience is your home college or university.

Your federal loans and scholarships will often apply to Living Routes programs. Your study abroad and financial aid offices as well as your academic advisor may also be aware of additional loans and grant opportunities that may be available to you. An excellent source for funding is the Gilman International Scholarship Program, with grants up to $5,000. Another foundation that offers educational travel scholarships to young women is the Sara's Wish Foundation. For western MA residents interested in studying in Israel, there is also the Grinspoon Foundation. Please also consider your personal resources, extended family, and organizations that your family members work for or belong to (they often have educational loan or scholarship programs).

While our scholarship fund is currently modest, Living Routes offers several need-based grants (usually $500-1,600 for semester programs, $250-600 for 3-week programs). To apply for such a grant, please complete the Living Routes Financial Aid Application (Feel free to call to request one by mail). Applications for financial assistance must be received within 3 weeks of acceptance into a program. Funds are limited, so apply early.

There are also alternative student loans as well, through private or quasi government agencies. These loans are usually less favorable (they usually require repayment to begin immediately rather than after you graduate) but they are dependable sources of funding for study. Please check out:
